I agree with my friend Philip, this world has gone crazy! Please humor me, because I'm about to go on a rant! I promise this will not be a normal addition to the blog! It's too bad the world wouldn't read my blog...even if it were just for today! obviously, I'm not writing this to the faithful readers of my blog, I am writing it as if I could address the American public, after which I would probably be assassinated by Lazy Government Check Guy...Read on and you'll understand.
Now, I'm not normally the guy to talk politics or Government policy or money and I must admit, I have been a little out of touch with the news lately, but today, I found myself reading about the 700 billion dollar bailout that congress is going to fund. I read that it will cost every American family an approximate $6500.00. Uh, HELLO! why is it that I am supposed to pay for banks and lenders making stupid, risky loans to people. I'll be the first to admit that I don't totally understand how "Big Money" works but it seems pretty simple to me.
To keep this somewhat interesting I have written a story to illustrate my point. I have given the characters names for my story which I believe it goes something like this: Idiot Guy is married with two kids and makes $100,000 a year. Chances are he probably can't afford a $400,000+ house, two new cars, a boat, and two motorcycles, along with caring for his family and paying his utilities, but he decides to go get a loan for a small, cozy 17 bedroom house with a 24 car garage, 6 pools and a private golf course. Crazy Bank Guy says "You bet, we'll give you all the money you want!" Idiot Guy defaults on the loan and Crazy Bank guy can't recover any money from the house. Enter Stage left: Large Government Guy who puts the screws to Average American Family Guy to save the day by coughing up 6500 bucks to cover Idiot Guy and Crazy Bank Guy's extremely stupid lending and borrowing practices. Apparently Large Government Guy says the markets are not working like they are supposed to. Meanwhile, Average American Family Guy is thinking that the markets might be working like they are supposed to if Large Government Guy would quit taking half his paycheck for taxes.
What is even more crazy about the whole thing is all the people that complain about how much the war in Iraq is costing yet no one seems to be complaining to much about 700 BILLION dollars. That's scary! It's also scary that the word "Billion" is taken so lightly in todays society, 1 billion dollars is an insane amount of money, 700 billion is an undescribable amount of money! It's like people these days seem to think that the US Government has an unlimited supply of money and that if they get themselves into financial trouble, guess who will come to their rescue? What about Average American Family Guy that goes to work everyday, pays taxes, tries to do right and in the end still takes a beating. Where as, Lazy Government Check Guy collects his "Crazy check" at the first of the month and doesn't do anything else except try to figure out what other Government programs he qualifies for. Can you imagine the good works you could do with 1 billion dollars or even 1 million dollars?

In the spirit of Govenment plans, I have come up with a couple of programs of my own. The first new program I have come up with is the "Get off your butt and get a job plan" The great thing about this plan is that everyone qualifies for it! No more waiting in line at the Social Security office, you simply get off your butt and go get a job. Now there are some stipulations to the plan such as, actually showing up for work, and actually doing something after you show up....I know, it's crazy, out of the box, thinking but I really think this plan will work. I've been doing this exact plan for many years and it hasn't failed me yet! Obviously this plan is not for those who have followed the "I have had a job forever plan" and have worked hard their entire life and actually paid in to social security.
The second plan I have come up with is the "Take care of your 17 kids plan" To become eligible for this plan, you first have to enroll in the "Get off your butt and get a job" plan. Once you have enrolled in both plans, it really quite simple...You take the money you get from your job and use it to take care of your children. Children are a blessing not a curse and if you choose to bring them into this world, you should take care of them, not Uncle Sam!
Think about the possibilities if you had 1 billion dollars...even if you donated a small portion of it, you could feed some starving kids in a third world nation, or better yet, take care of the huge population of homeless right here in our own country. 1 billion dollars isn't exactly pocket change! Surely I am not the only American that thinks that 1 billion dollars is a huge amount of money? It's not like you go to the grocery store, find a bill laying on the floor and say "Excuse me madame, but did you by chance drop this 1 billion dollar bill?"
I'm beginning to think the safest bet for money is to buy a large safe and start keeping it close to home, maybe bury it in mason jars in the backyard...OK that's a little extreme I guess, but who knows what the future holds! OK, I'm done with my rant! I'll get off my soapbox!

Life Sign, Day 37: I care...regardless.
Life in Action, Day 37: What fears keep me from reaching out to people who need a touch of compassion?

Mike...you are actually recommending able-body people work for a living? (sarcasm here) How dare you! That plan will never work! Ha! Ha!
