The "Doh" of Homer

Today the Chapel kicked off a Bible study at noon. It seems like it is going to be fun and it might be something we could consider doing in Life Group for a few weeks? It's called "The Gospel according to the Simpsons; the 'Doh' of Homer" and is based on a book by the same title. When you watch the Simpsons, you probably don't watch it expecting to catch the religious undertones that some of the episodes have but the truth is, today's episode is an exact mold of many men today. The episode is "Homer the Heretic" I encourage you to watch it with a little different mindset and see if there isn't a little bit of Homer's attitude in all of us? I'm going to get the book when I get home so I can check it out a little more in-depth. Apparently the writers of this series also have books such as "The Gospel according to Star Trek" and "The Gospel according to The Matrix" Apparently the idea started when a study showed that most of mainstream America today gets most of their ideas about Faith from the television. The writers decided that they would take popular TV Shows and movies and find parallells to Biblical Truths in everyday shows. It seems like kind of a cool idea?

So, it rained here again today, that's only two times in almost 3 months! The ground has huge cracks running all over and some are pretty deep and all the grass is dead. Maybe the rain will start to green things up a bit before I leave.

Apparently, I have become the tour guide for this weekend! I told three people that I was going to Gibraltar this weekend and now we somehow have 7 or 8 of us going. We are going to rent a 9 passenger van rather than two cars. This could turn out to be quite an experience!

Sunday I am going to Chapel and then at least 4 people including me are going to hike a trail here called the Via Verde. We aren't going to hike the entire trail because it's 20 miles long but we are going to hike a few miles down and then turn around. The trail is an old railroad line that went bankrupt back in the 60's. The Spanish Nation took it over, removed all the train tracks and made it into a hiking/Mt Biking trail. It has something like 20 tunnels that you can go through and the cool thing is that on the entrance to the tunnel is a button you push and the lights come on so you don't have to try and manuever in the dark or carry a flashlight. I think it will be fun and I will post some pictures of it.

Only 26 more days until I come home, but who's counting? ha ha

Signs of Life was about Tithing as well as different types of money. It really made sense the way Dr Jeremiah laid it out. He says that there is money that is specifically for your tithe or Invisible money because you should never even act as though you have it. Then there is Pocket money, which is money that we are comfortable giving on a moments notice. Next is Wallet money, which is more serious and required deeper committment to give. Check money comes next and is money that we don't carry with us. And finally there is Serious money, which is giving that costs at a higher level all together.

I will share this with you, since my family has been tithing faithfully, we have seen God work in our lives, He promises to provide and He has done just that for us many times.

Life Sign, Day 30: I give to others because God has given richly to me.

Life in Action, Day 30: How do I view money? Do I see it as what God has given me, or as what God has given to me to give to others?
