Pearl Harbor Day...

I was talking to Philip today and I mentioned that I hadn't blogged in several days, when I logged in, I discovered that I had started this post on Dec 7th which is the day Pearl Harbor was attacked, ultimately leading our Country to become involved in WWII.

So here's the really brief history of what happened.

Dec 7, 1941: 361 Japanese warplanes attack American airfields and shipyards, disabling 19 ships, destroying 200 planes, and killing over 2300 men. Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Malaya, Philippines soon fall to Japan.

Dec 8th, 1941: FDR asks for war on Japan. Congress approves and soon after, Germany and Italy declare war on the U.S.

Hopefully you noticed the day on your calendar and perhaps thought about all of the men and women who served during this time. I remember sitting at the kitchen table with my Grandpa Frederick and having him tell me stories about flying to Islands in the South Pacific to drop off supplies. When he passed away, my Grandma gave me a brown folder full of his military orders. It's really cool to look through them because in the "Destination" column it simply says "Classified". I guess the Army Air Corps didn't want to take any chances of the enemy finding out what islands the US was using to stage supplies. I was always fascinated by his stories and I think that he had a lot to do with me eventually joining the Air Force.
Just think what would have happened if Hitler's war machine would have made it to the U.S. Never forget those that died yesterday, so that we could be free today!

I cannot believe that I did not blog about Pearl Harbor on that day. Thanks for speaking on that subject. We as Americans should always remember that day in history when so many lives were lost for our country. I thank God that we are protected by those in our Armed Forces. May God Bless our Troops.
