So, what's the point of all this you ask? For those of you that don't know, I am the Safety Program Manager at my base and I have opportunities on a daily basis to help people, which I really enjoy. I want to share my daily "Safety" Message with you that I sent out today:
Last night I was reminded of the devastation that occurs from a house fire. Our neighbor called to tell me that the house two down from ours was engulfed in flames. I watched as fire trucks from all over, rolled in to attempt to extinguish the blaze. No one was at home when the fire started and no one was injured. I was saddened as I watched from a distance, as the family stood and watched their home go up in flames. I spoke to the family briefly and introduced myself and I have to say, that even in the midst of chaos, the mother found something positive to say. I overheard her say "Thank God", Apparently all their kids Christmas gifts were still down at the hair salon where she works. I couldn't help but wonder, "What if that were my family?"So, are you prepared? Do you have a plan? Do your kids know where to go in the event of a fire. Have you tested your smoke alarms lately, do you keep a small fire extinguisher close to the kitchen. "I'm not having a fire drill!" you say "My neighbors will think I'm some kind of nut!" Maybe... but would you rather that your neighbor think you a bit odd for having a fire drill or would you rather that they attend the funeral of a family member who couldn't get out of the house because you never took the time to tell everyone what to do in the event of a fire?
Anyway.., I could go on and on about the effects of fire on a family but I think you get the idea. I know, sometimes I'm a "Safety Nerd" sometimes it's hard to leave work at work, but hopefully it will make you think a little about what would happen if it were your house that caught fire. What would you do?
Think about it or else! HA HA HA

You do have a cool job Mike. Thank you for your service to our country!
I hated to hear about the family that lost their house. It seems like those type of things happen during this time of the year. I pray for them.
Fire safety is important. You are right to be proactive on this subject.
