Tonight was literacy night at Connor's school so we headed to the school library to buy some books and check out all the goings on at the school. First we stopped in the library and bought some books. I bought "There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Bell" it's a Christmas twist on "There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly". In case you're wondering, "I don't know why the lady swallowed the fly, perhaps she'll die!" I also bought "Dora the Explorer" for Lillers. Then we found a book for Connor called "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" I read a few pages of it, and it's a pretty funny book about a kid who's mother makes him write in his journal everyday. We also bought a book that Connor's teacher wanted for her classroom titled, "A Crooked Kind of Perfect"
After we paid for our books, we went out to the chuck wagon that they had set up. We sat on hay bales and listened to some poetry and a good story called "Tylers New Boots" The teacher that was reading the story really did a great job of getting into the story, and also getting the crowd involved too. It was really a lot of fun. The "Camp Cooks" had rustled up a big batch of peach cobbler but Connor and I left before they started serving it up. I'm sure it was excellent but we were hungry for supper instead, so we just came home.
I encourage you to read with your kids every night, I imagine one day in the near future that Connor and Lilly won't want to read with me at night. Sometimes, I don't feel like reading with them, but Andria reminds me that there will come a day when they will feel "Too big" to read with one of us. When I had more time, I used to love to read. What a great way to let your imagination go wild! I remember reading books only to see the movie later and think to myself, "That's not how I had that pictured at all."
I hope Connor had as much fun as I did tonight. I'll leave you with another Proverb in closing.
Proverbs 14:1 "The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish tears it down with her own hands."
