First I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I have been neglecting the blog the last couple of days, my apologies!I am currently reading a book titled "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch. A co-worker recommended it to me sometime ago; and he was right, it is an excellent book. Apparently it is tradition at many universities that professor's are asked to consider their last days to live, and to impart what matters to them the most through a lecture. The difference is that this really is Professor Pausch's last lecture. This is Mr. Pausch's account of being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and in the book he talks about living for the things that are important. There are three important things that are conveyed to readers; "The importance of overcoming obstacles, enabling the dreams of others, and seizing every moment (because time is all you have...and you may find that one day you have less than you think)"
So far the book has been great, but it sure makes you think...what if I were diagnosed with some incurable disease with only mere months to live? What would I consider to be important?
Our church is also doing a study called 30 days to live and I haven't bought the book yet but I think it asks the same question..."If you had just 30 days to live, what would you do?"
So, my New Years question is this..."If you had a limited time left here on earth, what would you consider to be the most important things? Kinda makes you think, huh?
Make your 2009 resolution to live for the moment and take every opportunity to live life to the fullest.
"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand." - Randy Pausch
