Remember the Alamo?

I'll bet you don't remember this "Alamo" as we refer to it. The building in the picture above is where the Taliban made their last stand at Kandahar International Airport. Since NATO forces are using it now, you can see that it didn't go favorably for them.

When you go inside, there are bullet holes in many of the walls and you can tell that there was quite a battle going on at one time.

The back of the building is damaged from the United States dropping a bomb through the roof.

On the ceilings inside you can see black soot where the explosion and flames ripped through the building.

The other interesting thing about this building is the "Gingerbread men" painted on the wall. The story that I was told is that this was a way to keep track of the number of dead and wounded Taliban. I'm unsure as to who actually painted them.
Ok, so now you have had your short history lesson for the day, I suppose I will close. I have some more photos from around the base that I will post in future blogs.
