Have you ever played the game "Slap Jack" where you are always wondering what the next card to be turned over will be? I was thinking how life is kinda like a game of Slap Jack, you never know what the next card is that God will turn over in His giant deck of cards. In my last post, I mentioned that I had applied for a job with the Forestry Service. I really thought it was a long shot since it was one position for the entire United States. Funny how what we think is a shot in the dark is nothing for God...Today I recieved an email saying my application had been reviewed and it was determined that I was eligible for the job and that my resume and application package had been forwarded to the selecting official for interviews or selection. Needless to say, I have been on cloud 9 since recieving the news. I talked to my boss about it today and he was very supportive and told me that he would help me anyway that he could. Could this mean that I am also one step closer to becoming a USAF JTAC as well? I guess God will reveal that card when the time comes. Maybe God has an Ace up his sleeve for me and my family? The time is drawing very near for me to deploy to Afghanistan, in a little over a week, I will say goodbye to my family and board an airplane with my brothers in arms and we will go and make a difference in the War on Terror! This is the ultimate test and a culmination of years of training and we all perform our jobs in a war time environment.
I have seen some photos of the place we are going to and it is definately not a nice place. A couple weeks ago, there was a flood there and I saw pictures of peoples bags floating in their tents. I think because of my rank, I will get to stay in a little better accomodations, it's a metal modular dwelling...guess it won't be too different from home since we live in a barn. :)
I have been working out quite a lot lately and I'm at the point where I'm starting to enjoy it again. My coworker, Daniel, introduced me to Cross Fit and although it is some of the most difficult stuff I have ever done, it's pretty fun. We compete for the best time and now there are several of us following the routine. So far I have lost 10 pounds!
Well, I will close for now, my 8 year old son is asking me to tuck him in bed...not sure how much longer I will get that request so I better take advantage of it.
Take Care!
Mike
